The manufacturing industry is undergoing a profound transformation driven by the principles of Industry 4.0, where cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) converge to create intelligent, self-optimizing production environments. At the heart of this digital revolution lies edge computing, a decentralized computing paradigm that processes data at or near the source of generation rather than relying solely on centralized cloud data centers. By placing computational resources-such as edge servers, industrial gateways, and smart sensors-directly on the factory floor, edge computing enables localized data analysis and immediate action.
