    <b>Urticaria and Psychological Factors From Stress and Itching to The Mind Skin Connection</b>
  </title>
Urticaria is a mast cell mediated inflammatory skin disorder characterized by transient wheals, pruritus and, in some patients, angioedema. Although psychological factors are not established as a universal primary cause of urticaria, psychological stress, anxiety, sleep disturbance and emotional distress may influence symptom perception, disease burden and, in some individuals, exacerbation of chronic urticaria. The relationship is therefore better understood as a bidirectional interaction between skin symptoms and psychological factors. This article briefly reviews the established mind–skin relationship and additionally discusses the interpretive perspective presented by Philip Bailey in The Healing Power of Illness, particularly his discussion of skin manifestations and itching. Bailey s concepts are presented as a psychosomatic and symbolic framework rather than as scientifically established causes of urticaria.
