    <b>Detection of Vadose Zones by the Electrical Method Case of Tanganyika Province, Kongolo Territory, Baluba Sector</b>
  </title>
This study focuses on the detection of vadose zones by the electrical method in the province of Tanganyika, territory of Kongolo, sector of Baluba, specifically in the villages of Léya 1, Léya 2 and Léya 3. In this context marked by recurring difficulties in accessing drinking water, geophysical prospecting appears as a relevant tool to identify geological formations favorable or unfavorable to the installation of boreholes. The method used is based on measuring the apparent electrical resistivity of the subsoil using the Schlumberger array, with an IRIS SYSCAL type georesistivity meter. The data analyzed come from vertical electrical soundings and resistivity profiles carried out at several points in the three villages studied. The interpretation of the results made it possible to distinguish different geoelectric layers corresponding in particular to sandy clays, clays, weathered material, fractured zones of the granite bedrock, and sound bedrock. The results show that unsaturated zones vadose zones are located at varying depths depending on the site. At Léya 1, they generally extend between 0 and 9.36 m, 0 and 17 m, and 0 and 31 m, according to the boreholes. At Léya 2, they are located between 0 and 10 m and 0 and 17 m. At Léya 3, they are identified between 0 and 11 m, 0 and 22 m, and 0 and 15 m. The potentially aquifer horizons are mainly associated with weathered rocks and fractured zones of the basement, and sometimes with alluvium. The study thus confirms that the electrical resistivity method is an effective way to characterize unsaturated surface layers, locate potentially aquiferous zones, and guide the selection of drilling sites. Consequently, siting recommendations have been proposed, including a preferential drilling depth of 40 m at Léya 2 and 30 m at Léya 3, subject to confirmation by the geological conditions observed during the drilling.
